The much-anticipated release of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay-starrer Leo hit the big screens at 4 am IST on Thursday, putting an end to the hype and anticipation surrounding the movie, it also answered the question of whether Leo is part of the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) or not.

Leo screenings began in Kerala and Karnataka as early as 4 a.m. The FDFS of the film in Tamil Nadu started at 9 a.m. even though the Puducherry government gave permission for 7 a.m. shows, the film’s FDFS starts at 9 a.m. in the national capital of New Delhi. Meanwhile, Leo’s Telugu premiere has now hit a roadblock as a City Civil Court on Tuesday passed an order to withhold the release of the film until October 20. The order was passed after Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainment approached the court and claimed that he has the right to the title ‘Leo’.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Leo has already generated Rs 34 crore in day one revenue. As Leo marks the second collaboration between Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj, particularly following the latter’s pan-India success with the Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram, expectations are soaring for the movie. Also starring Sanjay Dutt, Trisha, Arjun, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, and Mansoor Ali Khan in key roles, the film’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth recently extended his best wishes to Leo. Rajinikanth said, “I wish the film a huge success.” He added, “I pray to God the film should become a huge success.” Tamil Nadu minister and actor Udhayanidhi Stalin also came forward in praise of the film. He called Vijay ‘Thalabathy Anna’ and gave a thumbs up to him.

After facing many controversies, the Vijay-starrer Leo is releasing in cinemas on Thursday, and the film’s first-day’s box office collections look impressive, according to early reports. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film is expected to earn Rs 68 crore nett on the first day across the country. Rajinikanth’s Jailer, which was released in August, made Rs 44.5 crore on its opening day.

These figures reflect the impressive performance of the film ‘Leo’ on its first day, with expectations of crossing the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide as well as significant collections in various regions. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala had previously predicted that the film could make Rs 100 crore worldwide on the opening day. He told indianexpress.com, “In India, I predict there is a chance of it doing Rs 70 crore on day one. Worldwide, it might do Rs 100 crore on the opening day, based on the current estimation.”
